Statue of Unity

 

Statue of Unity is located in the Gujarat State, India. It is the most beautiful place and world's tallest statue with a height of 182 metres. The location of Statue of Unity on a river facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam on river Narmada in Kevadiya colony, approx 100 kilometres southeast of the city of Vadodara and approx 150 kilometres from Surat. Approx 419 km from Mumbai and approx 1085 km from Capital of India Delhi.


Statue of Unity was erected on October 31, 2018, in Gujarat to honour the Indian freedom fighter Sardar Vallabhai Patel.


Designed as a memorial to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Statue of Unity is open to tourists from 9 am. Located in Gujarat’s Narmada district, the world’s tallest statue (about 600 feet), is just 3.5 km away from Kevadia town and about 200 km from Ahmedabad.


Although lying in a remote corner, the Gujarat government is promoting the ? 3,000 crore statue as a major tourism destination. On an average, 15,000 visitors are expected daily to the site. Since it is double the height of New York’s world famous Statue of Liberty, the Statue of Unity is also likely to draw a decent number of foreign tourists besides domestic visitors from all over India.

The Statue of Unity can become a 8th wonders. It is so huge that you can not believe. It is like Mountain only. Statue height is 182mtr which is tallest in the world. The place is so beautiful and the roads to reach here is in extremely good condition. The valley of flowers and the sardar Patel dam is just next to this place which is also very good.


One should travel and see this statue once in a lifetime. It is like some giant structure of a Hollywood movie. It is so stunning that you can not move your eyes from it.


Statue of Unity: Back Ground

  • Statue of Unity project was first announced on 7 October 2010
  • The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta Trust (SVPRET) was established by the Gujarat government for construction of the statue.
  • Statue of Unity Movement – a drive was started to support the construction of the statue.
  • The Movement helped in collecting the iron required for the construction of statue. Indian farmers were asked to donate their used farming instruments
  • The movement helped in collecting 5,000 tonnes of iron. Although it was initially intended for the statue, it was later decided that the collected iron would instead be used for other parts of the project
  • A marathon ‘Run For Unity’ was held on 15 December 2013 in several places throughout India
    Statue’s Foundation stone was laid by Narendra Modi, the then serving Chief Minister of Gujarat on 31 October 2013, the 138th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Patel
